This Curl Curl Beach photography session was the first stage of a commissioned artwork of these beautiful siblings.
South Curl Curl is a place this family frequent on the weekend and represents time shared together and sparks joy.
The reason I do the shoot before the artwork is not only does it give the client a better idea of what the completed artwork will look like, but it also is an opportunity for me to spend time with the children and learn about them.
I then provide these photos to the family and recommend an image/or images to draw inspiration on for the painting.
The photoshoot it not your average portrait shoot or happy snap. It is not about getting children to pose in certain positions and look at the camera and smile.
It's about capturing their authentic selves. It is an observation more than anything else.
I find that not only are the images beautiful but they are unlike anything most families have.
The photoshoot is also done as part of the process for the artwork. In my experience, candid images like this make better paintings. They capture the emotion, the personality and allow the artwork to act as a window into a moment in time.
I loved this shoot. It was early morning in January. The day was overcast and the cloud cover kept in the warmth.
I can't decide my favourite, can you?
